arthritis treatment options

One possible treatment option for shoulder arthritis is shoulder replacement surgery, but a recent study has found that this procedure is actually more dangerous than was previously thought and the risks may not be worth the benefits. The study by Oxford University was the first major analysis of the long-term outcome of shoulder replacement surgery. It found:

  • complex revision surgery was required for many patients
  • a higher rate of post-surgery heart attacks
  • higher incidence of major blood clots and infections

The researchers concluded that patients should be fully informed of all the risks before they make a decision to go ahead with surgery. If you’re interested in exploring other arthritis treatment options, call us on 020 7631 4779.
