Arthritis breakthrough

An arthritis breakthrough could be on the horizon. A new protein solution kit that utilises your own cells to fight the symptoms of osteoarthritis has performed well in a pilot study. The results, published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, found that the nStride kit is safe and has a positive impact on the symptoms of knee arthritis, including pain and lack of mobility.

The nStride kit takes a sample of blood and then a concentrated solution of inflammatory cytokines is injected into the knee joint. Researchers analysed the product in comparison to a control group that received an injection of saline solution. After a year, the group that had received the autologous protein solution saw a 65% improvement in pain, stiffness and physical function.

“This trial is very important for the confirmation of nStride safety and efficacy and opens the gate for the big randomized controlled trial comparing [nStride] to hyaluronic acid, actually in progress,” explains Dr Elizaveta Kon, one of the scientists involved in the project.
